About Stuart Chalew

Dr. Stuart Chalew is a Pediatric Endocrinologist at Children's Hospital. With more than 35 years of experience, and specializes in the treatment of pediatric diabetes, growth disorders and thyroid disease. Dr. Chalew received his medical degree, completed his residency training and fellowship training in Pediatric Endocrinology at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. Dr. Chalew is certified by the American Board of Pediatric Endocrinology. He also serves as a Professor of Pediatrics, Section Chief Endocrinology/Diabetes, Pediatric Endocrinology and the Richard Fowler Professor of Pediatrics at LSU Health New Orleans. Dr. Chalew stated that many endocrine disorders, especially pediatric diabetes requires a team effort to help the patient and family succeed with treatment and live well. He stated, "I am fortunate to be a part of a team of highly skilled doctors, specialized endocrine and diabetes nurses, nutritionists and behaviorists who are able to help our patients in all aspects of their care. Because I am also a faculty member at LSU Medical School, I have the opportunity to make many new innovations in practice available to our patients. These new treatments may not be available for pediatric patients anywhere else in Louisiana. This makes for an extremely exciting and rewarding practice."
