MaleAbout Russell Zwiener
Dr. Russell Zwiener is a pediatric gastroenterologist specializing in gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition at Manning Family Children's. He serves as the hospital's Director of Endoscopy and Director of Pediatric Advanced and Therapeutic Endoscopy, where he leads the development of advanced endoscopic services for children throughout the Gulf South.
After earning his medical degree from St. Matthew's University School of Medicine, Dr. Zwiener completed a general surgery internship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He then completed his pediatric residency at the Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at LSU Health New Orleans and Children's Hospital New Orleans. To further develop his expertise, he completed an additional year of advanced fellowship training in Pediatric Advanced and Therapeutic Endoscopy through Baylor College of Medicine in San Antonio.
Dr. Zwiener is board certified in both General Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology. While he cares for children with the full spectrum of gastrointestinal, liver, and nutritional disorders, his clinical expertise is focused on pancreaticobiliary diseases, including acute and chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic disorders, gallbladder disease, and bile duct disorders.
He performs highly specialized minimally invasive procedures, including Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), and is among a small number of pediatric gastroenterologists in the United States with advanced fellowship training to perform these complex procedures in children. His practice receives referrals from across Louisiana, Mississippi, and the broader Gulf South for interventional and therapeutic endoscopy.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Zwiener enjoys spending time with his wife, Jaime, a New Orleans native, and their three daughters. As the father of a child with special needs, he has a deep personal appreciation for the unique challenges faced by these families and is committed to providing compassionate, individualized care for children with complex medical needs.

Dr. Zwiener is absolutely the greatest. He found out what was going on with my kid and has followed him through the whole situation. And he's about to be 19. So we are very, very sad that he won't get to see Dr. Zwiener anymore. But I'm confident that he's definitely still going to keep up with my son. Dr. Zwiener is a one. Thank you.

Dr. Zwiener respectfully listened to all my concerns about my daughter's symptoms and then carefully went over all the possible causes and tests that may need to be considered for her continued care. He is awesome!
