Dr. Russell Zwiener is a Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition specialist at Manning Family Children's. Dr. Zwiener also serves as the hospital's Director of Endoscopy and Director of Pediatric Advanced and Therapeutic Endoscopy. After earning his medical degree from St. Matthews University, Dr. Zwiener completed a one-year general surgery internship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He then completed his general pediatrics residency at Oklahoma University Health Science Center and then a pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at LSU Health New Orleans right here at Children's Hospital. He trained further for an additional year in San Antonio to complete a pediatric advanced and therapeutic endoscopy fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Zwiener is board-certified in both General Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology. Although Dr. Zwiener treats all pediatric gastrointestinal conditions, he specializes in caring for children with pancreaticobiliary disorders including acute and chronic pancreatitis, gallbladder and bile duct disorders. Dr. Zwiener performs highly specialized procedures including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS). He is one of the very few pediatric trained physicians performing these procedures on children in the country. Dr. Zwiener is married to his wife Jaime, who is a New Orleans native, and is a father to three young daughters, one of which has special needs. Dr. Zwiener has a special place in his heart in caring for children with special needs.

From the check in to check out everyone was so nice and helpful. I felt heard about my concerns and am thankful we are on the right path for my daughter. After advocating for so many years for her health it felt nice to be seen. Thank you Manning Healthcare Team for a pleasurable experience.

The staff was very helpful & the Nurses took time to examine my G G Nephew. The Doctor was very helpful in making me understand the problems my GG Nephew was having.The doctor told me what to do to help him.

Dr. Zwiener respectfully listened to all my concerns about my daughter's symptoms and then carefully went over all the possible causes and tests that may need to be considered for her continued care. He is awesome!

I have always had great interactions with Dr. Zwiener and his staff. My son has autism and Dr. Zwiener is always great with him. My son had lab orders from another doctor and I was so nervous about having to do any type of lab work being that he has sensory issues, but the nurses as well as the phlebotomist were amazing. They were wonderful with my son and eventually put him ease. 10/10 for all of our visits to LCMC Ridgelake!
