Caroline Straatmann, MD

Dr. Caroline Straatmann specializes in Pediatric Nephrology at Children's Hospital. She received her medical degree and completed her residency training at LSU Health New Orleans. She then completed her fellowship training in Pediatric Nephrology at LSU Health New Orleans. Dr. Straatmann serves as Director of the Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship Program at LSU Health New Orleans, Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Nephrology at LSU Health New Orleans, and is board-certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric nephrology by the American Board of Pediatrics. On why she chose her to specialize in Pediatric Nephrology, Dr. Straatmann said, "Because it provides the opportunity to care for patients, from newborns to young adults, with a wide range of interesting pathology, acuity and chronicity in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. Pediatric nephrologists develop long-term relationships with many of their patients, while also functioning in the consultant role. The ability to offer dialysis and renal transplantation in the pediatric ESRD (end stage renal disease) population is rewarding. Teaching medical students and residents in the academic setting is also fulfilling."
