MaleAbout John Barbara
I specialize in pediatric primary care. I became a healthcare provider in order to make a positive impact on my community. Being born and raised in the New Orleans area, it has always been my dream to give back to the community that helped shape me into who I am today. Providing medical care to families in need is one of the most rewarding experiences. I will always be there for my patients. Listening to parents' concerns and making them feel at ease is one of the privileges I enjoy most about my job. My training has taught me to focus on treating the patient as a whole, providing comprehensive care that considers the overall wellbeing of the patient.
My little something extra
I previously worked as a Pediatric Hospitalist at Woman's Hospital, one of the largest birthing centers in Louisiana. I am also a lifelong Saints and Pelicans fan!

The doctor is great. He's been the only doctor my baby has seen since the day he was born. He's awesome. The nurse is awesome. The office is so colorful and pretty. And everyone is just great at the office. It's always a great experience when I go. And they never let me forget to schedule his next appointment, which is great. Thanks.

Our pediatrician, Dr. Barbara, sees us in an incredibly timely manner. I always feel like we are being heard. The way he qualms my child's fears and lets her do things herself that she's able to always makes me feel great. Every time we go, he is like remembers us. He brings things up about the last time, asks how she is currently doing, and offers alternative solutions to other medications if needed.

I was met with multiple condescending comments about my choice to have a homebirth previous to establishing care with this pediatrician for my newborn. He proceeded to question and condescend on multiple choices I'd made in the care of my previous provider during my pregnancy and labor. When he examined my newborn and remarked on her excellent health, he sounded surprised/ nonplussed by the result. I will be researching options for a different pediatrician who is capable of respecting patients while navigating medical care decisions. I shouldn't have to deal with blatant disrespect just to access medical care for my family.

We recently had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Barbara IV for a well visit while our usual pediatrician was out of the office. My children, both of whom are autistic, and his knowledge immediately put us at ease. He took the time to listen closely, answered all my questions with patience, and was incredibly gentle and understanding with my kids. He moved at their pace and made sure they felt comfortable throughout the entire visit. His knowledge and thoughtful approach gave me peace of mind. It's rare to find a provider who not only understands pediatric care but also truly sees and supports children with neurodiversity. We left feeling informed, supported, and cared for. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to any family-especially those with children who need a little extra care and patience.

We called late on Saturday. I was really just curious if we should go to an urgent care or wait out her symptoms until Monday. Everyone was so beyond kind and helpful (even though I know they were all ready to go home). We appreciate and love this office so much. We usually see either Dr. Culbertson or Dr. Oliver, this was our first time seeing Dr. Barbara and he was great! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
